A Walk to Remember

~ from Jill

Things still in the street today, three weeks after hurricane:

metal siding bent and twisted like a piece of fruit leather
Barbie doll, undressed, face down
bookshelf with back piece missing
red plastic slide
brown palm fronds
roof shingles,
Pepsi can (as clearly as if it were product placement)
flattened frog
hot pink pool floatie
dead leaves
two beige couches, piled on top of each other
Disassembled child’s redwood playhouse
plastic fork with two missing tines
stumps of trees
pizza box
piece of blue tulle, caught in some dead leaves
a child on a bike, flanked by her parents: the bike is hot pink, with heart stickers on the wheels. She cries out, and her fathers says, “We’ve got you, We’ve got you.” Her little legs dangle above ground, then relax on the pedals; everything is alright.
