2002-10-28 3:51 PM Qasr Quran Mood: Exploratory |
Earlier this afternoon everyone in the group visited the nearby site of Qasr Quran, another Graeco-Roman settlement. This one still has a standing temple, however, which was great fun to explore!
The temple has numerous rooms inside, all with many nooks and crannies, and some with shafts that go up or down a couple of floors. It's somewhat dangerous to explore because of the shafts but it's also possible to climb to the roof, where there's a nice carving of Sobek on the wall.
The remains of numerous buildings surround the temple, and resemble our site of Medinet Watfa and the town of Karanis that we visited a few weeks ago.
Quite a few millstones lie amongst the other debris, as at our site. Here are two that look like the remains of Fred Flintstone's car!
And of course our site visit would not be complete without a panorama shot from the roof of the temple. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
