2002-10-28 6:21 PM The Last Week Mood: Normal |
We're into our last week here, and everyone's trying to write final reports, check data, make maps, etc., etc.
All of our finds fit neatly into this large wooden box, which was sealed with wire, hot lead, and a padlock, then transported under armed guard to the local antiquities office for safekeeping. As a result of the last minute rush for computer time, I may not post again until back in the States. However, I will definitely add a couple of more posts, because there's a couple things I haven't covered yet and a few upcoming ones so this will not be the last entry. (See the official week 4 and week 5 reports recently posted too.) Tomorrow and Wednesday we will take down our tents and pack them up. Many of the inspectors will leave tomorrow. On Wednesday the staff and remaining inspectors will drive to Cairo and have a luncheon where they receive their certificates for this course. Willeke will present a lecture later in the evening, and then we're done. On Thursday I expect to go shopping in the Khan el-Kalili, a huge bazaar in Cairo that has everything from kitsch to spices to jewelry to carpets. You name it, it should be there. It should be interesting searching out a few things I want to aquire and then haggling for them. On Friday morning I fly home and should be in LA around 8:30 pm.
