Pork Pies, The Results...

And the winner is.....

pork pie

Oh yes. The pies were all they were cracked up to be, mouth-watering delicious. All I served them with was roasted butternut squash and a sliced tomato. The pie was the star of the meal, and it shone!

The minute I bit into it, I closed my eyes and was transported back to Yorkshire - to the countryside - where the food there is just so different from here. There are smells there in the air that permeate one's whole brain, and it's just something I hadn't experienced since 2002, more than 10 years ago. I had a tiny bit of that feeling last night eating this little pork pie. I had the Stilton one and Paul had the plain original one. The only thing I'd complain about was that I couldn't really taste any Stilton in it. I could see it but it was just a tiny bit on the top underneath the crust.

The crust, on the other hand, was superb. Full of flavor and perfection.

So this company has my undying love. And they are right over there in Buffalo, New York! Two days away via FedEx!

So that's that.

Oh, no, that's not quite that. I got an email from my friend Bill D. in Yorkshire forwarding a site he found called Pork Piers. On this site the author writes about everything to do with British pork pies, and more! There's even a recipe on the front page if you scroll down a bit, for a Melton Mowbray pork pie. Not sure that it would taste the same using American ingredients, but some day I just might have a go at it. Some day. Maybe...

(Thanks Bill, I will enjoy this site for many hours to come...)

Cheers for the British Pork Pie!

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog...

He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world...

When all other friends desert, he remains."
