New Year...New resolutions to break.

I am really looking forward to the summer - Germany 2006 - the football (soccer) World Cup.

The Brazilians are naming England as the side to beat, in their 'effort' to regain the trophy.

To be honest, effort doesn't come into it - to watch the Brazilians play football is almost like watching a ballet.
They are truly breathtaking, fast, stylish and different.

England have a great team, at the moment - but also have this amazing ability to play like the local kids at the park, whenever there's a big competition to be won...
(PLUS..Germany have knocked us out on penalty shoot-outs, more times than I care to remember - arghh).

Just before the New Year, Michael Owen, (one of our best strikers) broke his foot - devastating news - but I've got my fingers crossed that his recovery will be more complete than Beckham's similar injury, before the last World Cup.

Yet more trivia - On my list of songs, in a previous journal entry, I listed Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma. I found and love that song because of football!
During Italia '90 a BBC commentator chose it, as the World Cup theme tune; and when I play it full pelt, on my iPod, I am reliving some past English glory!

T* isn't really a footie fan. He will watch some of the games, I'm sure, but won't worry too much if he misses one.

But, to me, to watch my team, is my form of patriotism.
My heart literally, flutters when they line up for the National Anthem.

I am on the edge of my seat, until the final whistle blows.

I will scream, shout, jump and cheer - even if I'm watching on my own...

*sigh*...it's a beautiful game.
