9am, Monday morning and I've just loaded the last of my laundry into the washer.

OK, so an organised person would remain completely up to date with this stuff - but I, generally speaking, don't,
so 'YAY ME', I award myself an extra cup of coffee.

Maybe I should watch some of the Winter Olympics over coffee?

*Checks out medals tables*

Oh...umm
How long before I can apply for US citizenship?

Last week my boys did a jump-rope activity, for charity.

I love that they wanted to join in because it encourages helping others, awareness of health issues and not least... 'exercise through play'.
Goodness knows they need some of that, in this lazy world of mass electronic entertainment.

What I'm NOT so sure about is the need for them to receive 'prizes' for the amount of donations they collect.

I, for one, would prefer my kids to learn a lesson about helping others, for nothing more than the satisfaction of having done something good.

Somewhere along the line someone, or some business is paying for all those prizes and it just seems to make more sense for that money to go to the 'good cause' too, don't you think?

When I was a kid, we did an annual 20 mile sponsored walk. Yup 20 miles!
The thing is - EVERYBODY would do it, or so it seemed. The whole town would get up at the crack of dawn and contribute in some way.

Even people who weren't interested in hiking, on any other day of the year, made an effort to get out. Those who physically couldn't walk it, would set up check-points and drink stops, along the route, or provide rides home for the weary.

It created a great sense of community and also raised a LOT of money for the charity involved.

Prizes?...well there were the blisters and aching limbs, if they count.
