A Long Week

I finally looked it up. It has been a whole week since I posted last, the longest since I began blogging, I believe. It has been quite the week. Two members of St. Stoic had surgery, one has been transferred to hospice care, and to top it all off, I'm preaching at two distinctly different services this Sunday. One is the regular worship, and the other is the 50th Ordination Anniversary of a friend and colleague.

Yes, you read that right--Fifty Years. When he was being ordained, I was not yet the Really Unfortunate Thing that happened to the woman who gave birth to me. In my sermon, I plan on asking him if he has gone and lost all his marbles, asking me to preach. He'll get the joke.

But the cherry on the cake of my week is the Chicken Barbeque, which will consume all of my energy all day long tomorrow. It is a huge community event. Last year, when I had been ordained and installed at St. Stoic all of six days, I spent the entire day just trying to figure out which people at the church were actual members, and which ones were chicken BBQ customers.

And then there are the pies.

If you want to piss off a gaggle of Midwestern church women, just mess with the pies. I learned to keep my mitts off the pies, thankyouverymuch. People have left the church over those damn pies. I will not even get within 20 paces of the Pie Station this year.

I don't even like pie, anyway.
