(Admit it, if you're over 35, you sang the song as soon as you read that!)

CTA, my eighteen-year-old, working-it-out-at-home, trying to-figure-out-what-to-do-next son applied for a credit card. I just about shat a brick when he told me (pardon my bluntness).

One thing this kid of mine does not need is someone offering to lend him money at highway robbery interest rates, then offering to let him pay it off over the rest of his natural life.

Apparently someone at the little bank we use mentioned that, as a newly minted "adult" he should start building a credit history. I suggested wryly to him that he would be good to build a full-time employment history first.

He just kept telling me, "I'm not stupid, Mom. I can handle it."

I argued that even with advanced degrees and solid employment at above the median income, his parents have made some less than stellar financial choices, which we will live down for a few years to come.

But...gentle readers God is good (all the time!) and my son informed me yesterday that he was declined.

That kid of mine dodged a bullet, yes he did.
