A little bit of this, a little bit of that...

* Can I just say now grateful I am for my drycleaner? I put on freshly cleaned clothes this morning, and I must just take a moment to say how much my life has improved since I started taking my shirts in to be laundered. It's a simple thing, really, and I'm sure many people learned this little trick eons ago, but it is so wonderful to not have to wrestle with the iron/ironing board every other morning, but to grab a shirt and go. Even some of my sweaters have been to the cleaners, and they come out great. Worth. Every. Penny.

* Banks and post offices are of course closed today, in observance of MLK's birthday. I'm fine with that. But our state does not recognize the holiday, and I'm not okay with that. School boards have a 'local option' to exercise, so of course inner city districts are closed, while those of us out in the 'burbs are not. It just sends the wrong message, that in 2006 it is *optional* to mark this day. Sigh...and we're a blue state!

* I went to visit the couple in the nursing home today (he is the church's resident "dirty old man"), and she asked me, ten minutes into the visit, "Do they still have that same minister at church?" "Why yes, E, and I hear she's just fabulous!" "Oh that's good. Who is the pastor again?" "It's me, E." I say with a big grin. It takes her a couple of beats, but pretty soon she is laughing. I'm glad that Alzheimers has not diminished her sense of humor. I am sad to see, however, that the nursing home has installed locked doors with security codes about every fifteen feet or so down every corridor. That says to me that they don't have the personnel to keep track of residents, and are reduced to using locks to keep everyone "contained" and safe from wandering away.

* The elder who wrote the troublesome letter last week approached me yesterday and gave me a big hug. She apologized into my ear, "I'm sorry I caused your meeting to go so late last week." My response: "Oh, not at all. We had so many things to discuss that it would have been a 2 hour meeting anyway. It had nothing to do with your letter, don't worry about it." The love-bombing campaign begins!

* We simply must, must, must figure out a way to have a RGBP retreat. My friend who is a member of Famous Fancy- Pants Lectionary Group is hopefully going to give me some hints on how to make this happen.
