it pains me to say

This last year has been one of the worst of my life. I have suffered several losses and quite frankly, I've lost the wind in my sails. My apologies to one and all but I simply cannot continue this publication.

I'm proud of what Stacy and I built in just a five years. We've published a multitude of very talented writers and we personally thank each and every one of you.

However, I will be working on an anthology so be on the look out for that. I will keep this journal going so that faithful readers and contributors will know immediately of any future plans.

The Chick Flicks email address will also remain valid and open.

Laurie O'Hare
Editor

Chick Flicks Ezine

publication update

I've been away for awhile, and for this I apologize. I've been contemplating the future of this publication. Admittedly, after five years, I'm suffering a slight case of burn-out and I really, desperately need some time to try and recharge my creative battery.

I've finally reached a decision. Chick Flicks will go to an annual publishing schedule. March 15 of each year. This will make acceptance a bit tougher.

I will also try to keep up with submissions as they come in, so authors won't have to wait so long to hear back from us.

For now, however, submissions are closed until January 1st. Anyone who has subbed something in the last several months, feel free to sub them out to other publications, and then be sure to check back with us after the first of the year.

I will not only be updating our Duotrope listing to reflect the new changes, but I will also post this new development on the index page of the e-zine.

I hope everyone had a great summer!

Laurie O'Hare
Editor

Chick Flicks Ezine

Issue Hiatus

Hello faithful readers and writers!

I had to totally wipe my computer and start over. Unfortunately, after doing so, I think it's more than likely a fatal problem. The computer still works (barely), but not any better than it did two months ago.

After much reflection and deliberation I have decided to suspend the June 15 issue. We will pick up again in Sept.

This is a busy time for me. My son will graduate the first weekend in June and before he (hopefully) goes off to college, I would like to spend more quality time with him. He is my only child and the "empty nest" syndrome has been creeping in (much to my surprise.) Around that same time, I will be moving and I have so many tedious things to accomplish to make that happen.

I've been at this for nearly five years, and quite frankly, I need a break.

But truly, have no fear. I haven't worked my ass off to just give it all up in a blink. Submissions will be suspended until the first of August. If you have sent in a submission, please feel free to send it out somewhere else. If it's not picked up before August 1, then by all means, resubmit.

So I wish you all a great summer. I will see you back here next fall. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at the chickflicksezine@yahoo.com email address and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Laurie O'Hare
Editor

Chick Flicks Ezine

Latest Issue and storySouth Nominations

I'm honestly doing the best I can. I am trying to get the issue up before I have to completely have to wipe my hard drive. Not an easy task. I'm close to pulling every freshly dyed red hair out of my freakin head!

I need some serious help (and I'm not ashamed to admit it) The future of Chick Flicks is in doubt. I love this publication, I know we expose voices that would otherwise never be heard, and that is what I truly love about this "job."

I need not only an assistant webmaster, but also assistant editors. We're not a huge publication, but one with passion for great writing that evokes emotions (and we have "built a 'name' in the four+years we've been in business.) That's our number one goal. Our "mission statement," if you will. Stacy and I shared a common belief that words do indeed touch on emotions, and we were quite adamant that it be emotions that often make us uncomfortable, emotions that make us examine those deep recesses within ourselves that we normally wouldn't explore or at the very least, not only wouldn't admit, but refused to verbalize. So, for any of you out there that share our "mission statement" please reply to chickflicksezine@yahoo.com

and please, if you're a reader, donate, and generously. Our contributors need to be compensated for the ability they have to make you feel that you're part of the human race, whatever your background or experiences. Everyone HAS a story and that is the guide by which we go from (no matter how "close to home" or "out of the norm) when choosing our content.

Now, on to a critical announcement. We have just nominated our picks for storySouth's
MillionWriters Award. Please go and nominate the Chick Flicks nominees. The link above is direct to the Reader's Nominations. The more nominations each story gets, not only the more attention each writer receives, but it so bodes well for the publication.

It was a difficult decision, but like the Pushcart, there our word count requirements.

Here our our 2007 nominees:

A Swim in the Clouds by Dave Burton

Dogwood by Adam Burns

Night Train by Len Bains

I love both Dave and Adam's works, both go places that make us feel uncomfortable, yet familiar. However, Len had been a reliable, honest and realistic contributor to this publication. And his Night Train story shows the depths of his talent.

Chick Flicks Ezine

I have been fighting with my crappy computer, trying to get this issue done. It's been slow and tedious.

Fiction submissions for the upcoming issue are closed. We've pretty much made our decisions and notifications will be sent out next week.

However, we are still in need of non-fiction.
All acceptances and (I hope) all rejections have been sent. If I missed someone, I apologize. I've been experiencing computer problems. But if you haven't heard from us, chances are it was a rejection.

Chick Flicks Ezine

Pushcart Noms and looking for readers

We're pleased to announce our Pushcart Nominations.

"A Swim in the Clouds" by Dave Burton
"Dogwood" by Adam Burns

There were others we wish we could have nominated, but unfortunately the Pushcart Prize has word count requirements.

We're looking for readers to help out. With the approaching date of Stacy going on to do bigger and better things, I'll be needing some help. Send your qualifications to chickflicksezine@yahoo.com with the subject head "Reader" You need not have a formal education, but need to know the basics of good grammar. We lean toward eclectic fiction and non-fiction, so having a wide range of literary tastes is a plus.

Chick Flicks Ezine
