Fun Day, Busy Month

Great day today! Brian and I went to Seabreeze, which for those unfamiliar, is a water park. It also has some rollercoasters and such. It's nice to do this sort of thing with Brian because I have a lot of fun in those places, but my tolerance levels are pretty low and I usually want to go home after about two hours. Brian's is the same as mine so I never feel like I'm dragging him away from the fun.

There were only a couple of down sides to the adventure. The main one was that even with SPF 50 sunscreen on I still ended up with a sunburn. It's not majorly bad, but still rather uncomfortable. I'm just not meant to be out in the sun, I guess.

I was going to mow the lawn today, and I got a little bit done, but then it started raining. Ah well, more to do tomorrow if it clears up. I'm not too hopeful though as thunderstorms are predicted. Sigh...

So, August is going to be a really hectic month. It looks like I may still be able to register for thesis this semester, but it's going to be work. I have to revise my thesis proposal (again) by Monday, which is fortunately almost done, find a second reader, and get five signatures, including the chair of the department who is new to the college. I'm not even sure she's in town yet. This all has to be finished by the twenty-fifth.

On top of that there's a lot of other stuff going on. Brian's birthday is the sixth so we're going to his mom's the fifth for dinner, celebrating here the sixth, and then on the seventh I'm getting on a bus at seven am to visit my mom and sister in Plattsburgh.

I'll be there to the twelfth when my best friend, Mindy, will be driving my back since she was planning to visit us here in Brockport. I'm not sure how long she's staying, but it's at least a week.

Which means that she is considerately going to Buffalo on the eighteenth to visit another friend because that is Brian and my wedding anniversary. Glad I already got all the presents for these occassions.

After that classes start on the twenty-fifth, and I still don't know exactly what I'll be taking. It depends on if the thesis thing comes together. I think either way I'm going to stick with the Beginning Russian class. I need two languages for a doctorate program and so far I have some pretty much forgotten Spanish from high school and a semester of Japanese. I could have planned this aspect of things just a little better.

If my ideal schedule comes together then I will have no classes on Thursdays and Fridays. Actually, regardless I will have no classes on those days, but I really don't want three night classes in a row which is what I have scheduled at the moment (Contemporary British Lit, American Lit from 1870 - 1920, and Studies in the Victorians). Eeesh!

Anyway, this not having classes on Thursdays and Fridays is relevant because I will be going to Worldcon the very first week of classes, and I'd rahter not miss any if it can be avoided. Since there are no classes Labor Day I'm looking good on that front. And, yes, Brian and I will be there from Thursday morning to Monday morning, so all fellow Clarionites I look forward to seeing you!

That's my month. It's going to fly by.

In other news no nibbles on part-time jobs yet, but that's probably good sicne my schedule is so up in the air. I have a few other places to apply before I get really desperate.

I revised Bat Boy and handed it to Brian, who I think was a little leary of the story concept. Really, who can blame him?

He liked it though and only had one major comment which is great. Especially since he wasn't familiar with the original tabloid stories and still followed the concept. It means it's almost ready to hit the manilla envelopes so I need to make a list of places to sen it (ala Jim Kelly). Thanks for the advice!

Haven't started anything new yet, but I've been getting those tinglings of an idea in the back of my mind. Not really sure exactly what it is yet, but something's coming together which is a good sign.

Oh! The ferrets had a check up and the vets says they're doing really, really well. Tempest was having some dentistry issues because of the steroids she's on, but that seems to be improving and Whisper has gained two tenths of a pound which is a lot for a ferret. This is incredibly good because for awhile she wasn't keeping any weight on and was, in fact, losing weight. Since she has Cushing's Disease and an insulinoma this was Very Bad News. But, all is well now so no worries.

Anyway, that's about what I've been up to. Bye for now, all!
