I am on vacation to deal with the fact that there's a good chance the rest of my life will be spent reporting small-town news. I am 38 years old with no children, no television, no need for any material things I don't already have, and no idea what to do with myself if I am not working. Since becoming a reporter, I have wrestled with a desire to write creatively, for myself, short pieces of fiction - solely for the process, not necessarily for the publishing - but have not made a dedicated effort to do so. What is my purpose in life outside of work? How am I going to fill my life when I am not working all the time? Things I love that are not work (or work task) related: 1. Working in my flower beds. 2. Camping. 3. Geocaching. 4. Soaking in the bathtub. Hmmm. I see already that I'm going to have to work some people in there. Have I mentioned that I really don't like people? I mean, I like people, I just don't like to spend time with people. Which, I mean, I . . . Well, let's just say if I had to choose between staying home or joining a group of people - I stay home 75% of the time. I like projects better than people. I deal with people every day at work. Anyway - I getting off base here - back to the matter at hand. Creative writing. . . I believe I'm going to join in on the 3/50 words group led by randomthoughts at the beginning of the month. This will lead me to work again on fiction, although I hope I can keep up. I hope it is a commitment I can stick to. And, to give my life focus I am going to. . . Um . . . . . Well, that's a big enough decision for now. I have the rest of my vacation to figure out the rest. . . Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
