Rose's New Foods

Rose is extremely picky. This is on top of not being able to eat gluten, so every new food she adds is great cause for rejoicing. We've had a run a recently. And though she's recanted on noodles (brown rice) with tomato sauce, she's made some big progress.

Popsicles

I had a terrible sore throat last week, so John got me fruit popsicles. I'm not saying they're top of the grow food list, but I don't think they're a complete wash. Rose thought my lime one was ok, but she really liked the wild berry and strawberry. New flavors, new ways of eating—good.

Frozen broccoli

John and I buy organic broccoli from small local producers. Julia does too, but she also stocks frozen pre-cut in the bag. One night at their house, Miriam wanted frozen broccoli for her vegetable and Rose followed suit. (Sometimes peer pressure is just dandy.) Rose nibbled the florets and nearly leapt from the table shouting, "I like it! I like it!" Now, she regularly eats the "trees" as she calls them, and hands me the stems to eat.

Seaweed

Rose has been eating sushi since forever. Eating sushi means we take each roll, pull the filling out, unstick the seaweed wrapper, and hand over the flavored rice. Recently, I've gotten kind of lax about how much seaweed I actually detach, and she hasn't been calling me on it. Today, she actually announced that she likes just a little bit of seaweed on her rice.

Gingerbread

We stopped by our local gluten-free bakery, which we are extremely lucky to have. Rose decided she wanted a gingerbread cupcake, probably because it had gorgeous lavender icing with purple sprinkles. It turns out she didn't like the icing and I was required to scrape it all off, but she did eat several bites of the cake and said she liked it. I have the feeling she might change her mind, but a start is a start.

Earl Gray tea

She's tried this before (decaf of course) and didn't like it. She came running into me today announcing she did!
