R: Why are those people sleeping in tents?
D: They don't have homes, so they are living there.
R: You mean they are homeless?
D: Yes, how do you know about homeless?
R: In a book in school a snail loses its shell and it's homeless until it gets a new shell. How do people become homeless?
D: Well, sometimes they lose their job and can't pay for their houses. (I refrain from adding and that's why you shouldn't hassle mommy about sending you to school so she can get some work done.)
R: I want to give all my tzedakah money to them and then they won't be homeless anymore.
D: That's a great idea honey, but I think it's going to take a lot more money than that. What if you suggested to your Sunday school class that they can donate the class tzedakah too.
R: Yeah, we could have a field trip.

So, Rose, David and I went over to Tent City where they have a visitor's booth all set up. Rose handed over her very heavy jar of coins and shook hands with the men who graciously accepted it.
