David's check-up

He’s just fine.

Unfortunately, we had to wake him from his nap to get to the doctor, and he spent much of the visit scrunched in my lap like a pill bug. He did unroll enough to flash the doctor one of his dazzling smiles and mumble a few words. I thought I treated David respectfully--explained why he could not have a cookie before breakfast, mostly did not cram him in our out of his clothes without consent--but the doctor taught me a thing or two.

Her tone, her word choice—everything was about one individual talking to another, not an adult talking to a baby. She explained the stethoscope and tried it on herself and Daddy before it was David’s turn. She told him why she wanted to look in his ears. I suppose he could have started yelling, “No want that!” and I wouldn’t have been quite so impressed, but he calmly complied. John pointed out that he’s changing so fast, we probably haven’t kept up.

And for the vitals--his weight went from 10th to 25th percentile which is key if you remember he was below zero for awhile there. No ear infections, so all that ear tugging is just him playing with his ears. No two year molars, so all that waking up in the middle of the night is just annoying. All his bits and pieces are as they are supposed to be.
