Let me reiterate that Rose is fine. Fine, fine, fine. She is untouched in body or spirit.

A week after the last letter from the Department of Social Services, we got an identical one—“a person who worked at this daycare has been named in an investigation on sexual molestation charges. . .”—seriously, the exact same letter. Except this time, it named the childcare center we switched Rose to at four.

I didn’t even tell you all about it because A. I was waiting for more information, and B. I figured it was the same family who, like us, had gone to both centers, and the story was going to be the same—basically, a false alarm.

I don’t know if it’s the same family, but Curtis admits he did it.

Rose had very little contact with Curtis. He never substituted in her class, never did playground duty. The closest she and I both came to him was dropping off a friend who was in his class and waving from the door. He taught the children wonderful folk songs. He seemed very nice. Of course.

I still love this childcare center. I’m still planning to send David there. I think they only did one thing wrong. Curtis did not have a co-teacher. (One other teacher didn’t either.) I think another adult needs to be in the room at all times.
