constipation

It's been a very painful couple of days for David. He started telling us his tummy hurt two days ago. We knew he hadn't pooped yet, so we kind of figured that was the problem. Today it really hurt. He refused to eat prunes, raisins, or cranberries. He refused to drink water or juice. I finally cajoled some tea and three figs into him around lunch time. But he didn't poop until mid-dinner.

Then, of course, he was a bundle of energy and wanted to eat everything in sight. We started him with half an apple.

We had this problem with Rose. At first we worried that it was her celiac and somehow gluten was sneaking into her diet and messing her up. No, it was her diet. She basically didn't eat anything except rice and cheese. That equals constipation. We finally instituted the prune at every meal rule, and that seems to have set her on an even keel. We thought David, more catholic in his tastes, was in good shape. But we obviously weren't paying attention to the amount of applesauce and raisins he was eating compared to cheese and chocolate. The latter won out. We are going to be pushing the fruits and veggies.
