quintessentially Swarthmore

At 2:00 there was the Carol Gilligan lecture, folk dancing, a tour of the campus, and probably five more events I wanted to do. I went with the folk dancing.

Elliot: So, are you still doing folk dancing?
Debby: No, but I do a lot of swing.
Elliot: Ah, methadone.

Walking up the hill to Parrish hall, the columns of trees, the great expanses of lawn, the heart lifting gorgeousness of it.

Checking the places I knew my friends would be and finding them there.

Goofing around with swil folk, walking in the woods in the dark to the bonfire, round singing under the tower, and dancing at the club—all in one night.

Hugs.

Lying out on Parrish lawn talking with friends and not thinking, 10 more minutes and then I have got to go write a paper on Blake.

Mina: It's so strange to be here talking kids with you.
Debby: Really? For me, it's finding a new thing in common with all these people instead of just remember when.
Mina: I think it's strange because I remember when you used to think a fetus was like a cancer or an alien trying to suck the life out of a person's body.

Talking to everyone. My mom came back from her fiftieth high school reunion and said one of the best parts was how all the petty rivalries and factions were just gone. A friend at this reunion pointed out that it's impossible to be best friends with 300 people. It makes sense that we found our small groups and stuck with them. But now, I just greeted everyone as though they were a long lost friend, someone I was dying to know, and I found them all fascinating.
