I was trying to make bread (a John job), but David was kicking Rose while she was trying to do her red, white, and blue potholder. (Everyone when they see the kit says, "Oh, I used to do those!" And we all say it rather wistfully.) So, I pulled David off the white couch and read him two books on the black couch—Little Huskie, about the UW football team and Mary Cassett. (You've got to show them what you love.) Then Rose needed me to finish the last five rows of her potholder while David snuggled under my arm and screamed. Not screamed like a bad mood but just for the fun of making a lot of noise. He could cover his ears; my hands were weaving. Then David and I made bread (don't touch that! the sticky spatula has to stay over the pan! hands off the stove! thank you dear that was very helpful) while Rose made loud frustrated noises from the living room about troubles binding the potholder.
