David loved getting dressed up for Rosh Hashannah services. We put on his tie, his belt, his button up shirt. He was also very excited our new three year old neighbor was going to be there. And then we got there. Hoards of people, random standing up and sitting down, and no stories about George. So, David and I spent services in the lobby with our two year old friend B. I had not planned on this so had no toys or books with me. The rabbi gave us a deer to play with us, and I told lots of stories about George flying his rocket ship to synagogue. Rose told me she was disappointed I hadn't been in services to bless her. I was pretty sad I missed the service too since I had missed erev Rosh Hashannah for food poisoning. I know it's just a kid service, but I still actually find it moving and thoughtful.

So, with John's help I decided to not take David to Yom Kippur services today. Hurrah! Everything goes so much more smoothly without a two year old in tow. Though Rose got more and more hyper as the service went on (she wanted to do swing dance turns during the turning dance. and why not?), we had a lovely time. She sat on my lap and that part about our children are our torah, I got that.
