We got the letter home today. Without mentioning me at all (which I appreciate), the teacher said she had reassessed her homework policy for first graders. She would still encourage everyone to read and do math games at home but there would be no more worksheets. She cited Alfie Kohn.

Rose was delighted. She gleefully read a book to her younger cousin and sat on the couch reading a Weather Fairy book to herself. She and Daddy played Set, a math game about making sets with color, shape, number, and pattern, an activity frankly much more complex than adding 5+2. She gave me full credit for changing the system.
