David's 47 person birthday party

Yes, you heard that right. Forty-seven people came to David's birthday. It's not quite as insane as it sounds. We rented (for quite cheap) the preschool gym equipped with tables, chairs, and all the play equipment your heart could desire. Then we invited family, family friends, and David's entire pre-school class. Oh, and siblings too. Since three-year-olds don't go to parties by themselves, we had at least one parent per family.

The party ended up being really easy. The kids ran around the whole time, and there were plenty of adults to monitor the trampoline, yoga mats, basketballs, and careening cars. We had them all decorate paper bags for their goody bags which was a nice sit down craft project to start with, and everyone wore name tags because one of my goals was to actually meet and get to know the other parents in the room. Instead of gifts, we suggested people make donations to the classroom.

David had a typical three-year-old experience: hyper, gleeful, overwhelmed, freaked out, ready for it to end, hyper, gleeful. . . I think his favorite parts were the light blue balloons and the chocolate cupcakes. My favorite part was the sense of openness, even with so many people, and the sense of fun.
