Torey Hayden ate my life

You're probably thinking, oh Debby has a job, that's why she hasn't been blogging much. The job ended Friday. It was great, I loved it, I hope more jobs fall in my lap, but that's not what's been taking every spare minute for the last few days.

A few years ago I loaned my mother-in-law some books for her airplane ride. She's in the middle of a big house cleaning and sent them back to me, two books by Torey Hayden . Very dangerous. I had forgotten how captivating Torey Hayden books are. She's a special education teacher who writes about the seriously messed up kids she works with in her unorthodox classrooms. She's smart, sassy, and a really good writer. I find myself both reading fast to find out what happens and slowing down to enjoy the lyricism and small moments she creates. Unfortunately, this meant I was reading as I played Mille Bourne with Rose, reading as I told Curious George stories to David, and most seriously, reading when I should have been sleeping.

I finished the three books I had in the house, but I couldn't help myself. I ordered three more from the library.
