thank goodness for Tylenol

There's this new rule with sick kids: fever is good. The fever helps burn the sickness out of them, so only give Tylenol when the fever is really making them miserable. David was not miserable this morning. He drank some tea with lots of honey, ate a couple bites of cereal bar, and things were going fine. We had big plans to go over to my mom's and cook for Passover. Rose and mom made matzah balls. David and I were working on the hard boiled eggs and picking the parsley.

And then he fell apart.

It makes perfect sense. He just ran out of energy. Thus ensued the 45 minute temper tantrum. The good news is I quickly realized negotiation was impossible and distraction didn't seem to do any good, I was going to have to wait it out. The bad news is I couldn't figure out how he would recover without food or medicine in his system. Eventually, he almost fell asleep and I took him out in the sunshine. He calmed enough to take some Tylenol, and we were back on track. For the rest of day, we gave him Tylenol at regular intervals, got food into him, and had a reasonably happy functioning boy.

I've learned that if the fever is keeping him from eating (and he's not going to just throw the food up anyway), I need to use the medicine to give him the energy he needs to function.
