David saw his first play

If we don't count when he was five weeks old, and he nursed in the quiet room (not so quietly) during a theatrical performance, David saw his first play this week-end. It was Goodnight Moon by the Seattle Children's Theater, and it was a rip roaring success. He was a perfect audience member: asking questions in my ear, laughing hysterically, sitting with riveted attention the whole way through. He did do a lot of "when is it going to start?" but who doesn't?

We knew he was getting ready for this experience because we heard Dan Zanes (folk musician) at Christmas time, and he loved it. Then we saw the gay men's chorus do a children's show and he did not have to head for the lobby. Even the fact that he didn't have to sit in the lobby during Tot Shabbat made me think he was ready for a play.

And, it was a really good children's play. They take the book (you know the book, right? right?) and first they make the set exactly like the pictures. Wow! Then they bring every thing to life. So, the cow really does get to jump over the moon and the three bears come out on stage for a tap routine. It's a combination of actors and puppets.

David was so proud and excited to be going. Of course, he had to don his formal wear which includes a button up shirt and a wool sweater. We had a great time.
