It's small. It's hokey. It's full of fried food and 4H projects. We took the grandparents and the kids and had a great time at the sate fair. The kids were all about the rides. David loved the little cars and motorcycles, and trains that just go round and round on their tracks. Last year things like this freaked him out, so it was really fun to see him turning the wheel and grinning. Rose tried out a small roller coaster, also a success.

We toured the sheep, goats, pigs, and cows. We admired the prize winning decorated cakes. My favorite was a garden. Rose liked Barbie Doll in a blue frosting dress. We watched people spin wool, bead roses, and carve dolls. I found the informational posters made by seventh graders particularly endearing. I really wanted to watch an animal judging and actually learn something, but the kids didn't have the patience for that.

The best part was lunch. We sat down at a picnic table just as a brass band started up. They were adorable. They played polkas and swing music, and John and I got up and danced. Then the kids joined us and we did a swing dance don't get caught in the middle twirl me around and do the hokey pokey. That's what a band is for, right?
