David and Mommy have been wrangling for about ten minutes. David is adamant that he does not want to leave the house, drive to Aunt Julia's house, stroll to his sister's school, drop her off at swim class, and go to the library. David has also been refusing snack even though he's obviously running on fumes.

Mommy: Driving to Aunt Julia's is not a choice, but I will give you ten choices.

Choice # 1: Do you want me to carry you to the car or do you want to walk?

Choice # 2: Do you want a bar in the car or standing on your head and twirling?

Choice #3: Do you want to put your fuzzy on now or wait until we get to Aunt Julia's?

Choice #4 : Do you want to wear your fuzzy and raincoat or just one of them?

Choice #5: Do you want some water?

Choice #6: Do you want to listen to music?

Choice #7: Do you want to walk to school or be in the stroller?

Choice #8: Do you want to take the shortcut or the regular way?

Choice #9: Do you want cross this street or that street?

Choice #10: Do you want me to run?

I know they aren't scintillating. Frankly, it was getting two bars into him that improved his mood and ability to negotiate. Highlighting for him all the choices he does have might have helped.
