ice skating lessons

David and Rose adore their ice skating lessons. This is not a shock for Rose because she sees the girls in the center who twirl effortlessly and is sure the Olympic committee will come knocking on her door just as soon as takes lesson one.

She didn't get the nod for Russia 2014, but she did learn to tuck, move backward, and perhaps twirl a little. She also made a friend.

David, David is a new boy. Ever since he got in the pool this summer without me and took six weeks of swim class without me, he can do anything. For those who haven't been following the saga closely, until this summer, David refused all non-school activities. No gymnastics. No dance class. He probably would have been refused preschool, but I didn't give him that option. We spent a lot of time sitting around watching Rose's lessons.

This year he gets his own swim class, his own gymnastics class, and since we were at the ice skating rink anyway, he opted in for ice skating lessons. In one lesson, he became safe on the ice. He can now fall with confidence, and, of course, get up. He can move, albeit slowly and stiffly. He immersed himself in the class, but whenever they were at the wall near me he gave me a kiss, which he called a "love stop."

I don't want to miss any love stops, but my plan is to go to the other rink and skate during their lessons. To that end, I bought myself skates! Thank you those of you who gave me money for various holidays; this was your present to me. After their lesson, David, Rose, and I all skated together. David did a lot more grinning today than he has for days.

P.S. I posted a video of David skating on facebook.
