We ordered our keyboard from Amazon. So, a great big box came to our door full of other little boxes. And there was the flurry of boxes for John's birthday presents, and the box of, wait for it, Lindt chocolate. And of course, our regular boxes of oatmeal and gluten free flour. Which makes for gads and gads of boxes piling up in John's office waiting for recycling day.

And while they waited, the big keyboard box got stood upright and turned into a magic dressing room complete with hooks for the costumes and swords.

David drew the swords on other flattened boxes and cut them out or had help cutting them out. Then when they flapped, I showed him how to use more cardboard to reinforce them, leading to strong swords and little scraps of cardboard all over John's office.

One box became a mask for the latest iteration of David's Halloween costume (and I'm taking bets on whether David will ever settle on a Halloween costume and create it before the parties start Friday.) And all this with just scissors and tape. Wait till they add color.
