I got a job

I'm going to run two writing workshops for nursing students. I'm really excited about it. I love teaching people writing. I'm going to cover organization, citations, and proofreading--all in three hours. I thought I would bring them carrot cake to keep things moving.

I've got two more job interviews coming up. More on that if they pan out, but then there are all the volunteer jobs I've taken on.

Reading for Fluency Friday--For the first half hour of school every Friday, family members (that means you too grandparents) are invited in to read to the class. I did it last week for David's class. I had the job interview this week, but I'm planning to do it as often as possible. I like reading to kids, and it's a great way to see the secret inner workings of the classroom. And Rose's class may start doing it as well.

Washing the class dishes--John signed us up for this one. It only involves taking home a bunch of plastic bowls every week and running them through the dishwasher.

Proofreader for the school newsletter--I volunteered, but thank goodness they aren't just relying on me. Proofreading requires the fine attention to detail I don't enjoy. I'm probably doing this 1 hour, 2x a month.

Walking School Bus Co-Leader--On Fridays, I'm going to help lead a large group of children down the hill. No big deal since I walk the kids from Julia's most days, but this Friday one family was late and my children were in the middle of a huge fight. I don't mind the walking, but this job seems to involve a lot of emails.

More coming up: chaperone/driver class trips; bi-weekly poetry teacher; unit poetry specialist; art and poetry week; dressing up as the Bagley Bee and running with the kids at the Jogathon.

My sister warned me that volunteering for the school could take a lot of time. If I'm going to try to earn money and write poetry, I may need to rebalance.
