Rose and I had a good day

Rose came home from school Friday and announced it had been another bad day. Huh? I had spent 2/3's of the day with her at the ballet and then on the playground, and all seemed dandy. It turns out by bad day she meant there had been a few awkward moments. I told her to tell me the bad news and then focus on the positive.

Rose and I have actually been doing fine (except for the big fights about how much of her science project she is going to get done each day), but I still decided to take my own advice and point out some good moments.

Rose asked me to bake banana chocolate chip muffins. I asked her to help, and she did.

Rose has been trying to get me to read the book Wonder. To intrigue me, she read a couple chapters to me while I was doing the dishes. It worked. After that, I could not put the book down.

Rose and I couldn't remember all the words to "I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane," so she got the song book Dan, Julia, and I had made for her years ago. We proceeded to sing a dozen songs together as I did the dishes.

Rose went through Rise Up Singing marking songs she wanted to point out to me. We sang those.

David didn't want to practice the piano because he felt overwhelmed by sharps. Rose offered to help.

I started losing it as I prepared lunch--overly hungry and tired. Rose took over setting the table.
