the basement flood

Water came into the house. Ugh.

Water came in through the foundation? We saw it seeping under one cement wall, and I made John comb the tool shed shelves for plumber's putty to make it stop. It didn't stop.

Water came in through a hole in the cement in the wall under the stairs? We found pools and puddles under the stairs after we spent two hours (until midnight) pulling out the wrapping paper, old window blinds, ice chest, four green camping chairs, two awkward folding chairs, the extra flooring for the bathroom, the extra carpet for the downstairs, which, luckily this time, did not get flooded. With every towel we own, plus the emptied out rag drawer, plus the powerful slurp of the shopvac, we cleared out the pool in the tool shed.

Water came into the house because the gutters were filled with leaves and twigs? I hope so because we can solve that.

Water came into the house because the drainpipes were out of line? I hope. We could probably do something about that.

Water came into the house because it was raining hard? Ugh.
