It's that time of year again. At the end of every school year, we give the kids new rights and responsibilities. I would put us nowhere near the forefront of having the kids do chores, but we are slowly building their repertoire.

David's new responsibilities

Make his own lunch. (David's immediate response: But I can't use the sharp knives. Me: See below).

Help with the laundry.

David's new rights

Use the sharp knives after a lesson.

Read Harry Potter 5.

Rose's new responsibilities

Make dinner once a month. Rose says plan on eggs and pancakes.

Help with the laundry.

Rose's new rights

Watch Harry Potter 7 & 8.

Cross any street. Go any where. Rose: So, I can take the bus downtown. Us: Yup. Like she's really going to take us up on it.

Other major changes

We are setting up a desk and a kid access computer in the dining room. We'll put security controls on it and the kids can use it for homework, general research, and typing programs without asking for permission or using up screen time. Any other use, like the new Minecraft game John is getting for the family, is screen time.
