I just finished teaching my first grad class. It was a two credit writing class for nurses where we met as a class one hour a week, and then I met with folks individually.

They all got A's. I've never given more than one or two A's in any class I've ever taught ever. And that's twenty-five years of teaching. No one could every accuse me of being an easy grader. But I set this class up as a process class--I didn't have to do final grades on their papers because we were linked to another class they were taking--and they all did the work.

I really wanted this class to reduce their anxiety about writing at the grad level, help them establish an effective process, and teach them all that stuff like transitions, APA citations, paraphrasing, active voice, and those dang commas in compound sentences.

From their self-evaluations, most of them did come out of it with 75% of those goals. I definitely saw them nailing transitions and struggling mightily with active voice. I also had a fabulous time.
