walking to school with David

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, we made a major change in the getting to school method this year. Instead of driving to my sister's house and walking from there together, David and I walk straight down the hill from our house to school. It's about a 15-20 minute walk, and unless I've yelled at him to get out of the house and he's silently stopping his way down, we spend the time chatting. It's been wonderful. I've told him his birth story, we've talked about catalytic converters on Runabouts (I hope I remembered that correctly), the odds of the turtles we passed ever getting to the lake, what he wants for his birthday, why we went him to this school and not the one down the street, and I just listen when he goes into great detail about Terrerium. Often David seems one step behind in conversations. He says "What?" a lot when you have just said exactly what. I suspect it's a combination of tuning in at the last minute and not having as much background knowledge as the rest of us. But going down the hill, we are both paying attention. We are together.
