Rose: David, did you get your haircut?
David: Yeah.
Rose: It looks just the same.

Sometimes my girl says just the right thing. As regular readers know, David has not wanted his haircut this year. We shaved it with a Seahawk's logo at the beginning of the school year, to great acclaim. It has literally been cut twice since then, last night being time two. Whenever I bring up the subject, David throws a fit announcing it's his hair and he controls it. Um. That's actually a complex question for a "give kids control over their lives" mama like me. On the other hand, it's a wreck. On a good day he looks like Sean Cassidy on a bad hair day. On a bad day, it sticks up ten different directions and different lengths.

David's buddies all have long hair. I wasn't trying to break his vibe. I just wanted it cleaned up. My friend Sharon recommend Sean at Mercury who reasonable priced, did her son's hair like a rockstar, has a kid this age, and is all around cool. Much better than the one other person who pulled a power trip on him, accused him of having tampered with his hair, and left him crying.

At first David looked at his hair and almost smiled. Then he came home looked again and cried. But I think Rose's comment made it all ok.
