Somebody up there's looking out for me. Kodo drummer comes home from a long day and the greatest moving picture ever made in the history of mankind is on the tube (albeit edited for TV).

"I just got out of a 6-year relationship, okay? That should help explain why I'm acting so weird. It's not you, it's me. I just wanted to say that. Sorry.

This is Mike."

God bless this movie. God bless every frame of it. Is there a straight American male in the United States who takes issue with Swingers? (Because I've heard rumors he exists.) While Mikey sits on his floor grieving over pictures of Michelle, I sit on the couch torturing myself with photos that TAFKAC emailed post-breakup. She probably sent them just to torture me. It worked.

"You haven't been drinking, have you?"

Oh well, when all else fails at least I know I wouldn't 'a been any good to her from the wrong side of a Cuban cell serving a 20-year sentence. I just read this article ranking nations in order of accomodation to journalists.

There were 166 nations.

Cuba came in 165th. Only North Korea was worse. Yes, even Iraq was deemed better. (Of course, this was probably polled before the insurgency really picked up in the last year.)

"Tend the pin, Chi-chi. The natives are starting to look restless."

[gulp.]

Apparently there are 26 independent journalists in jail down there, serving 14 to 28-year sentences. You can call me many things, but smart is not one of those things.

"You ready, Hip-hop?"

Hm, may-haps I should look into this.

I'll end on a hopeful note, with a slightly-altered quote from the Holy Script, Act III:

"...Then why won't she call?"

"Because you left, man. She's got her own world to deal with in [Los Angeles]. She's a sweet girl, and I love her to pieces, but you gotta move on. You gotta let go of the past, and when you do, the future is [freezing]. Look outside: It's [15 fucking degrees] every day here. It's like Manifest Destiny. Don't let anyone say we can't make it - we made it! And everything that is past is prologue to this. That which does not kill us...you know. All that shit."

Amen.
