Hai Everrybody!

Hi Dr. Dick!

Well, looks like I relapsed and neglected the blog again. It's becoming more clear I'm an unfit blogger. Somebody call social services.

Actually, Nameless has done a decent job keeping the updates fresh as the two of you reading the comments section already know. She's two weeks into a three-week visit in God's Country East and her timing couldn't have been more perfect. Temps have plummeted into the low 90s. As we say here in God's Country East, "sweater weather." Nothing like a crisp fall to remind you of God's miraculous changing seasons.

We've had a great visit. Nameless has loads of free time cooped in the apartment while I'm at work though, and you can tell the cabin fever is starting to get to her. Plus, that's after I downloaded Tetris for her on my Xbox 360, can you believe it?

Tonight she asked me to pick up some PMS food from the store. "PMS food"?? This was an incredible leap forward. Finally, we have the courage to call it what it really is. This was the Armenian Genocide Resolution, played out in my apartment.

Editor's note: Of course I got her permission to use that joke before writing. Nameless goes, "But I'm not even PMSing yet!"

"Oh, so it's more like storing for the winter than Armenian genocide," I reply.

"No, now you're making it sound like I'm going through menopause!"

Heh. I guess you do need the patience of Job to date me. Right now we're watching the original Omen and Nameless goes "I bet you were just like Damien when you were a kid." After two weeks under the same roof my girlfriend thinks I'm the antichrist. Other than that, a great visit!

Mad shoutout and hearty public congrats to JD^2, who just had his first kid last week and we hear he looks more like his mom thank God! I can't wait to take little JD^2^JR out on his first surfing lesson - I know he won't capsize like dear ol' dad.

In about a week's time, once Nameless leaves, I'll be fighting spoiled overweight pre-pubescent suburban kids online with plasma lasers while JD^2 boldly embarks on fatherhood. And that bums me out until I remember I'll average more than four hours of sleep per night during the next six months. Advantage: Halo 3

Work-wise, one of the more interesting things I covered lately was a PBS event featuring Judy Woodruff and Tavis Smiley. Both had interesting things to say, especially coming off Tavis' recent Republican debate where the four front-runners coincidentally had other plans.

I bumped into Tavis on his way out and thanked him for what he was trying to do for journalists of color. He said thanks. Clearly, he was confused why some white dude was thanking him. Mexican, maybe? Italian? ...Lebanese?

Jordanian? Iraqi? Smash mentioned the death of Flower Whiskers in the last post's comments.

Obviously, we're all grappling with this tragedy and while I think it was a bit tasteless of Smash to bring this up so soon I guess I'll indulge and offer my two cents.

I was heartbroken, devastated. But Flower died courageously protecting her children and will never be forgotten among the Meerkat community.

I think Rocket-Dog is showing tremendous poise as the Whisker clan's new leader. Sure, she stumbled out of the gate but who among us wouldn't in the same situation? She showed remarkable improvisational skills - grace under pressure in relocating the Whiskers burrow and strategically targeting Houdini during the latest Zappa attack. It's been a shaky start, but I have the utmost faith in Rocket-Dog's abilities. Truly, Rocket-Dog is Flower's daughter. Make no mistake: The Whiskers are in capable hands.

Personally, I just want to see Zaphod come out okay. He stuck around waay longer than a normal Meerkat following Flower's tragic demise. It's clear he's lonely and he can't cope. He's been reduced to a roving male, trying to mate with the Zappa females. That's like trying to score with whatever drunk ugly chick is left at the dive bar after closing. It's a sad fate for the once proud dominant male of the Whiskers.

I wish Zaphod joy and happiness. I know it's what Flower would want.
