Anyone else read Slate today?

Interesting debate on a Gloria Steinem NY Times Op-Ed, where she uses Hillary's skid to argue that sexism trumps racism in America.

I say, how does anyone win that argument? If Hillary winds up trouncing Obama on Super Tuesday, then the NAACP can just as easily make the same argument. That means it's a weak argument.

Look, it's not a referendum on which is worse. Let's keep it positive: The Dems are gonna nominate either a black dude or a chick, and as the primary season heats up and gets nasty, surreal and disappointing, that's still something to celebrate.

I think Dahlia Lithwick, Slate's legal guru, hits it out of the park:

"The real contrast between Obama and Clinton lies not in this who’s-carrying-a-greater-burden sweepstakes. It’s that he figured out how to transcend labels and she tried to do so by turning herself into an android. In the end, it seems to me, Obama faces easier sledding today not because its easier to be a black man in America than it is to be a woman, but because he’s modeled—and rather beautifully—how much simpler it is to be yourself than to become a piece of precision machinery, comprised of polls and talking points.

now go cook me my grits.
