Ecca
My Journal

My feet will wander in distant lands, my heart drink its fill at strange fountains, until I forget all desires but the longing for home.

Keep in touch.

Grading

This weekend, the 25th and 26th, was The Big Day for our aikido club. The ranking aikido instructer in New Zealand, Takase Sensei, came down from Auckland to see who was ready to move on to the next level. Aikido has ranks that are partially indicated by belt colors, like many martial arts.
So now I'm officially "rokkyu" or sixth "kyu" rank, the beginner's level. While the test itself was worth doing, it was much more interesting watching the advanced students attempt their levels. Some accomplished their challenges with grace and confidence, others used too much force or weren't quick enough for their levels. I would like to become better than some of them, which means I have a _lot_ of work ahead of me.
