Ecca
My Journal

My feet will wander in distant lands, my heart drink its fill at strange fountains, until I forget all desires but the longing for home.

Keep in touch.

Learning by doing

Things I Learned in the Yard This Week:

Clay dries skin.

Wool grease (lanolin) waterproofs skin.

Termites live between the bark and the wood on old logs.

They seem to prefer solid sections to really soft, rotten areas.

Cut-down willow branches still grow leaves in spring.

Wool fleeces stick together after shearing.

Dags will come off in strips -- and yes, dry dags do audibly rattle. (Wool that clanks when you lay it on canvas is really dirty wool.)

Wool can hold a lot of water.

Wet wool is heavy.

Garlic will grow roots in February, and shoot out of the ground in March.

Garlic roots are really white.

Berries are already putting out shoots.

Earthworms like to live around taproot weeds (like hawkweed and dandelion), under the leaves.
