Seeing Grandma

We all had to get up early this morning (around 8am, which is early for being out here) so that we could hit the road around 10am. We had a three hour drive (each way) ahead of us. My Mom, Nana, Rob, and I got into the car and my Mom drove us out to Wisconsin. On the way out there we stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant that was attached to a hotel. We had a view of the indoor heated pool that the hotel had and I SO wanted to jump in. It's so friggin' cold out here. Earlier today it was -2. I'm scared to think what the temp is out there now!

When we got to our location (the Muskego / Waukesha area) my Mom dropped Rob and I off at my Grandma's (on my Dad's side) place. She has an apartment in a retirement village. My Mom and Nana headed off to spend some time with my Aunt Pam and Uncle Kim. It was nice seeing my Grandma ("Ma") again. The last time I saw her was a year ago when I was out here for the holidays. I miss her and since I'm in L.A. and she's in Wisconsin seeing her more than once a year is nearly impossible. She has a nasty cough and is sometimes on oxygen (been smoking since she was a teenager) and has her health problems, but she's almost 94 so that's to be expected at her age. Rob and I gave her our gifts (a large pack of things from Bath and Body Works which she seemed to really like and some coffee and sugar - I know it sounds weird but I've given her that in addition to her main gift every year since she drinks a ton of coffee and sugar a day, it's just a thing between us) and she gave us a card with some money in it (which she really did not have to do). It was nice talking with her. We were there for about two hours and then my Mom and Nana came by to pick Rob and I up. Ever since the divorce and some things that came to light after it, my Mom doesn't have much to do with my Dad's side of the family (none of them told her that he was cheating on her). They're still my family so I still want to see them and remain in touch with them, but I can see why she doesn't. We hugged my Grandma goodbye (I felt so bad leaving because she was starting to cry when we left and I don't think I have ever in my life seen her cry) and headed down to the car. We then headed back home.

On the way home I fell asleep for a good part of the ride. The weird thing is that I usually don't sleep in cars. Then again I got four hours of sleep last night, so that might do it. On the way back we made a quick stop off at a gas station so my Mom could fill her car up with gas and so that I could use the bathroom. We then headed into Galena and went to Canova's for dinner. Dinner was all right and we headed home when we were done. Once again the TV is on (they watch a lot of TV around here) and I'm fiddling around on my Mom's laptop.
