Sold Out

Guess what my job consisted of today?

I would give you a hint, but I think I'll just tell you instead. I have spent, so far, the last four hours telling people we are sold out. Yes, no rooms available.

It always amazes me the way people respond to those two words, sold out. Most people get really pissy when I tell them we don’t have rooms. For some reason, no one believes me. They all ask me if I’m kidding, or joking, or if I’m serious. Then I explain to them that it is not a joke, I am serious, we have no rooms.

Why can’t people accept that a hotel will sell out? Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do? Or is it that because you don’t have your room here yet, we can’t be sold out. That’s how people act, like we can’t possibly be sold out until they get a room. Well, too bad for you, there are no rooms.

I had a lady hang up on me today when I told her we had no rooms left. I had a gentleman tell me there was “no way you guys are sold out, no way!” I’ve had almost everyone ask me if I was serious or joking.

There are 13 hotels off this exit including the one I work at. Yes, 13 hotels and they are all within 2 minutes of each other. Tonight there are only three of them that aren’t sold out. It’s summer and we are busy, but lots of people still travel through and just expect there will be a room here for them when they get here. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

My advice to all these people that come in here with an attitude because we are sold out is, next time, make a reservation. That avoids this problem completely.

I am almost to the midterm for my medical transcription class. As more and more time goes by, I start to feel like I’ll never get it done. I know that’s not true but it feels that way. I’m just going to put my head down and press through the rest of what I have to do. I’m still hoping to have the class done before Muffin is born, but I don’t know if I’ll make it or not.

I was happy to read today that even though the unemployment rate in the US is on the rise, the medical industry is still reporting job growth. I think I picked a good field to go into. As long as people get sick and need a doctor, I will have a job. Not that I wish people ill, but technically the more sick people there are the better it is for me.

I started the diet the doctors office gave me today. It confuses me a little because there are a lot of fruits in it and a lot of bread. I would think if they wanted me to keep my blood sugar level all day, they would want me eating less of those things, not more. If I stick to the diet exactly as the doctors office gave it to me, I’m eating almost three times the fruit that I usually do, and twice as much bread. I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

I think it’s important for me to eat more, smaller meals a day. I think it’s important that I have healthy snacks that keep my blood sugar level. And I think it’s important that I try to avoid fried foods and things like that. Those are all parts of the diet too, so I think I’ll take those parts and tweak it a little.

After all, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, right?

I think this calls for further research.
