Lilypie 1st Birthday Ticker

Respect the prego

Can I ask what would possess someone to hit on a pregnant lady? I mean, I can understand hitting on someone who you believe to be available in some way, but what says, “I’m available” about being pregnant?

We have some guys here at the hotel working on some landscaping. They were working on the hotel across the street on Thursday when I came to work and one of the guys had waved at me. No big deal, I waved back.

Well, he comes into the lobby today to have a little conversation with me. He brought up the wave on Thursday and everything. He’s standing here making little jokes and giving me the eyes and all that crap. I can’t help but laugh about it.

You know the funniest part; he’s not the first or only one to hit on me since I’ve been pregnant. I brushed it off for a long time because I thought, well, maybe they don’t notice, I’m not showing that much.

That is no longer true. I am showing, a lot. You cannot mistake my shape for that of a woman not carrying a child. Even though people see this, it makes no difference; they continue to hit on me. I don’t understand it.

Not that I’m not flattered when some guy hits on me, but I think it’s a bit disrespectful to hit on a pregnant woman. There is just something about that that strikes me as wrong. I mean, I’m growing another man’s child in my belly right now, and you’re probably picturing me naked. I would definitely classify that under the messed up category.

No one has any respect for pregnant women anymore. Actually, I don’t know if people ever did. I’ve only been pregnant this one time and I don’t know anything about how pregnant women have been treated socially in the past.

I’ve always been respectful of pregnant women, even before I realized how hard it is to carry a child. I don’t feel the same respect.

Take MD’s family for instance. They still treat MD and I like nothing in our lives has changed or is going to change. They like to use our house as a hotel, and they see no reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to behave this way. They want to call at the last minute and come over when I’ve worked all day, and that’s okay to them. They take absolutely no consideration for the fact that I’m carrying a baby.

Last weekend, MD’s brother calls us on his way into town and says he wants to stop over. This kid has been trying to squat at my house every single weekend for the past three months. He was even trying to convince MD and I to let him move in with us, into our two bedroom townhouse, for three or four months. He said while the baby was little, he could just make the nursery his room.

Yes, yes he did.

Anyway, he calls and wants to come over. Okay, fine, whatever. Then he tells MD that he wants us all to go to six flaggs the next day.

Ummm, did someone forget that I’m 28 weeks pregnant?

MD asks him what I’m going to do if I go, he tells him I can’t ride any of the rides. MD’s brother says, “oh, I know she can’t, she can swim in the pool while we go on the rides.”

OH, OH, OH CAN I PLEASE SWIM IN THE POOL ALL BY MYSELF WHILE YOU ALL GO ON RIDES!!!!! CAN I PLEASE!

I feel disrespected. I’m carrying a child, I’m about to become a mother, I deserve more consideration than that.

MD’s brother’s other suggestion was that I just walk around with them and hold their stuff while they go on the rides.

I think I’ll stay home and poke my eyes out with a pen instead, but thank you anyway. :)
