Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

The garden and the wedding

I really think I need a new bed, especially when I feel more tired when I wake up in the morning than I did when I went to bed. I'll have to put it on the list.

We planted a little patio garden this year and it's been so much fun. I forgot how much I missed growing things. I can't grow plants in the house. I don't know what it is, but as soon as it comes in the door it's doomed. But I can grow all kinds of stuff outside with no problem.

MD built me a 2x3 foot box and filled it with dirt and I decided to plant peas, tomatos, and green bell peppers. MD's mom also gave me 4 broccoli plants and two cabbage plant.

The peas did really good. I couldn't believe how fast these things grew! But, peas don't do well in the heat, so as it got hotter, and they turned more and more brown, we pulled them up to give the other stuff more room to grow.

The rabbits we have in the backyard LOVE the broccoli and cabbage. I don't think I'll be getting any actual harvest out of these plants. I don't really mind too much, and it's nice to have the plants out there because I can pull a few leaves off to give them to our bunny Owen.

So far I have one bell pepper growing. The plants produce buds, but I don't know if the rabbits are chewing the buds off or what's happening. So, just the one of those.

And the tomatos are doing really good. We have five growing now and lots and lots of buds. We had a little aphid problem, but I sprayed the plants down with water mixed with just a little dishsoap, and problem solved. I didn't want to use any pesticides or chemicals because Muffin runs around there, and I don't like the idea of putting poison all over something I hope to eat. But, the soap and water worked really well and we have had no aphid problem since. MD has a pound of bacon waiting in the freezer for when we pick the first tomatos. He wants BLT's really bad.

Wedding stuff is going. It's such a pain in the ass to plan all of this stuff, and I don't like to use the word never, but I will never have another wedding. IF I'm ever crazy enough to want to get married again, I'm going to the courthouse and calling it a day.

We've had a little trouble figuring out the cake. A friend of mine was going to make it for us, but she's travelling here from 17 hours away and she was afraid she wouldn't have enough time to bake and decorate a cake once she got into town. Also, she didn't want to drive down with a cake in her backseat. So MD and I looked into getting a cake from the venue for the wedding and reception and they don't really do cakes. But, they go through a local cake person, so they said we could order one from her. Well, we picked out a picture of the cake we liked, and they want to charge us $241 for a cake, with buttercream frosting, to feed 40 people. I felt like that was totally crazy.

MD found out that a lady from work has her own bake shop in town, so we're going over there tomorrow morning to talk to her about a cake. If that doesn't work, I'll bake the fricken thing myself.

MD and I have a list of last minute stuff to get done, and most of it we can do this coming weekend, so that will be a load of pressure off. Then we're in the home strech!

I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.
