The viburnum are blooming. We have one out front and five more in the back. These are the most fragrant shrubs in the garden - almost as sweet as freesia and attractive to the big, slow bumblebess. I meant to keep a gardeners journal this year - what was blooming when - but never quite got off the mark. Although I suppose I could start anytime. I'm sure I'll find some other way to procrastinate - lack of a journal, no time, no energy, whatever. There's a guy named Danny Gregory who maintains this site. He is an illustrator, although that term doesn't do justice to his drawings. I'd love to be able to keep a journal like his, complete with little sketches of my life.

Rebecca and I were out today in the finally-spring-like weather and stopped at the SPCA. We still haven't heard anything back from any of the rescue agencies we've applied to for dogs, so we decided to see what the SPCA had. They usually are filled with large dogs - shepherds and retrievers and the like - along with many, many pit bulls. Today they had a sweet little chow-chow who came to them almost two months ago as a stray. She's being treated for Lyme disease and has cateracts, but has a very sweet disposition. Caitlin still needs to visit with her, and I want to call the vet to see what the complications of Lyme disease can be in dogs, and she's not exactly a shedding-free breed, but she is good with cats and needs a home soon. The SPCA named her Foxy, but we will change that to Roxy if she comes home with us.

Books: It's Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong. I don't usually read ghost-written books, but one of the guys at work recommended this. It's not exactly a masterpiece of an autobiography, but it's not unreadable either.

Shadowland, by Jenny Carroll. Because Rebecca has so much time on her hands these days (no computer, no phone, no TV until her long list of chores is done), she's taken to reading 1-2 books every day. This is one of the books she read that she suggested that I read. It's written by Meg Cabot, who is the author of the Princess Diaries books. She must write thousands of words a day, because she had whole series of books written under a variety of pseudonyms.
