Battle of the egos

Books: (I can't remember the name) by Lance Armstrong. I know he's a cancer survivor. I know he's possibly the best athlete in the world. I know he's won the Tour de France 5 times in a row. I know he's Sheryl Crow's boyfriend. But what came shining through in this book (poorly co-written by Sally Jenkins) was his massive, overwhelming, staggeringly enormous ego (he poses a challenge to Larry Ellison in the ego department). It was obviously his story and thus needed to center on him, but there were a number of throw away lines that overshadowed the rest of the book (primarily about his relationships with women). I'm glad I read it, but I wouldn't want to have to sit next to this guy on a long plane ride.

Movies: Lovely and Amazing. The title sums up both the content of the movie and my perception of it. Definitely a chick flick, it focused entirely on the stories of a mother and her daughters. This movie teaches you not to have liposuction, not to pick up stray dogs off the street, and not to sleep with a 17 year old boy, even if he is Jake Gyllenhall.

Dreams: I was running a seminar at a college in a large lecture hall, but it was dark and raining outside (and even inside, for a time) and no one wanted to pay attention. I turned over the seminar to a man who was some sort of inspirational speaker and I walked out into the rain. I was then a student at the college and had to tell my father that I wasn't going to be attending that school anymore, but was going to transfer to one of Penn State's graduate programs. My father was paying for my degree (quite a feat, since he died 17 years ago), because it was undergraduate program, but I knew that I'd have to pay for myself in graduate studies. How many obscure psychological references are tied up in *that* dream?!
