sadly, i have to shut it down :(

HeavyGlow

I went to renew the web hosting this morning and discovered that not only are my coffers completely empty...I am both overdrawn at the bank and over the limit on my credit card. In light of that, and my never-ending computer problems, and the money-sucking move to a new apartment, and the time-sucking new job I hope to start soon, I'm going to go ahead and shut down HeavyGlow permanently rather than continuing with the back and forth thing. This is pretty much effective immediately I'm sorry to say since my hosting package expires on July 1st. I had grand plans for this go around, but as usual my appetite exceeded my means.

Your stories are hereby released as of this very moment, and I so appreciate the faith you've shown in me and the support you've shown for HeavyGlow. You are all winners in my book.

more computer problems

HeavyGlow

My computer has died yet again! I'm jotting this from the old laptop, which only works sporadically. On top of that, I'm in the middle of moving across town to a cute little apartment...even though I hate apartments normally. I think it bites when people have to live sandwiched between other people, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.

What does all this mean to you all? Well, hopefully nothing more than a slight delay in my submission responses, but it "could" mean that I'll need some of the submissions resent to me. Until I figure out what actually happened to the thing I won't know if any data was lost. It could also mean that I quit because I have no money for repairs this time.

So, stay tuned here for news. Don't resend any submissions unless I specifically say so, and if I don't show back up by August 1st (at the very latest), you'll know I couldn't fix the computer and will have given up the ezine in which case all your pieces will be free to submit elsewhere.

Bye for now.

Anyway, I present to you all, the 9th issue of HeavyGlow.

Please enjoy the issue and place all feedback on the stories as a comment to this blog entry.

spring issue filled / subs for fall now open

HeavyGlow

The spring, 2008 issue of HeavyGlow has been filled!

Okay, I have 20 totally fantastic and eclectic little gems to offer you all in just under two months. I can't wait for everyone to read them...I'm so excited about the diversity, and quality, and in some cases, the weirdness. I decided to cap off at 20 stories, and that includes the word reign subs. Since there are only 2 issues per year, I figured 20 short, short stories wouldn't be "too many", and that way, readers can wander in and out at their leisure.

I'll post a TOC sometime next month, but for now I encourage you all to get busy on writing something for the fall! Deadline for that issue is October 15th or when filled.

new site

HeavyGlow

EDIT: Actually...this'll have to wait till tomorrow.

Okay, as I said before, it's really not what I was shooting for but the new site is done for now. I'm going to be uploading it sometime today. Now, the current URL ( http://www.stacytaylor.net/heavyglow/index.php ) "should" still work, but for those who bookmarked the URL as a Joomla link (odd characters within the URL), it won't work anymore so you'll need to delete it and add a new bookmark.

Because I have glaucoma and other eye issues, I experimented with color schemes quite a lot and found that a dark background with sort of gold or tan text worked the best, but please do comment here if you have trouble viewing the site.

Thanks a bunch!

new issue progress & reading recommendation

HeavyGlow

Well, things are moving right along I'm happy to say. I've read and sent out notifications for everything submitted thus far and still have two or three slots available. If I fill the issue before April 15th, I'll begin reading for the fall issue but will post announcements here and on the site itself.

There was one fellow that I haven't been able to reach so if there's someone out there who has submitted and not received a response, please contact me at the email address listed here.

Speaking of the site, I went ahead and made a new one which I'll be uploading soon. It's not exactly the vision I had in mind because time constraints got the best of me since I've been doing some freelance work. But, it'll do I suppose. I went back to plain, simple old html and xhtml but I did create a php enter page so as to (hopefully) preserve everyone's bookmarks. If you visit the site after I upload and it seems to have disappeared, check here because I'll post an entry about it. Also, I do still plan to work on that vision I mentioned earlier in case you spot some odd things happening.

Here's a reading recommendation for you all. Paul G. Bens Jr., who has been featured a few times in HeavyGlow has written a masterfully erotic gay novella titled, Mahape a ale Wala'au that's available in e-book format here. It's a sweet/hot story (overflowing with slashy goodness) set in the beautifully lush surroundings of Hawai'i. I quite recommend the read!

Okay, that's about it. Looks to be a real eclectic and interesting issue coming up, by the way. I'm sure everyone will love it:)

website problems, submission guidelines

HeavyGlow

I'm not sure what's going on with the HG website, but I hope I can get it resolved soon. This is why I'm abandoning Joomla in the long run...perhaps sooner than later if things go on this way.

In the meantime, here's a short explanation of the guidelines because as it stands right now, I've read and made my selections/notifications on over forty pieces of flash fiction. So, obviously, I need more stuff to read.

Send all submissions as .rtf or .doc ATTACHMENTS to, submissions@stacytaylor.net

Please do not exceed the 750 word limit.

Please do not exceed the word limit of 100 for your bio.

I would advise you to visit the website for content/style examples, but alas, it does not want to function today. Think dark and lovely, strange and lovely, just weird but with an emotional impact, etc. I'm taking very little humor...if any.

Please indicate italics by underlining the italicized passage.

Please format your attachment EXACTLY as the example below (very important) starting at the top left of your document. Keep in mind that you should replace all instances of "???? goes here" with the actual information that belongs there:

TITLE HERE:
BYLINE HERE
EMAIL ADDRESS HERE:
WORD COUNT HERE:
DATE OF SUBMISSION HERE

BIO GOES HERE: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.
HeavyGlow Gets Reviewed & Changes Looming

HeavyGlow

Thanks to the talented John Ritchie, word is spreading! He did an awesome review of the anthology for "The Short Review". Read it here!

There's also a brief mention of specific contributors in Anne Brook's writing blog, here (near the bottom of the page)!

I'll be changing the HeavyGlow web design over the next several weeks. I'm in no hurry whatsoever but if anyone happens to visit and sees the site down, just know it's me doing a little testing and it will be up ASAP.

HeavyGlow Merchandise

HeavyGlow

There is now a store with HeavyGlow merchandise. Right now, all that's there is directly related to the book but more stuff will be added here and there over time. Specifically I'm working on HeavyGlow logos for mugs, postcards, etc.

I have not ordered anything for testing, but I've been selling other stuff at Zazzle for well over a year now and everything I've ever ordered was of good quality. ALL proceeds from any sales will be fed directly into the upkeep, maintenance, and improvement of the HG website as well as possible future payments for contributors via contests, etc. Sometimes the Zazzle zoom views and large views appear blurry or slightly out of focus but it's been my experience that the actual images do not look that way in print.

Currently available:
Four posters
Five postcards
Two mugs
One bumpersticker

HeavyGlow Store

If you share the link with others or post it on your blog/website, please remember to include the asterisk at the end.
