And no, it's not about the Oscars, though THOSE didn't turn out as expected either. Mostly.
Sports Illustrated, not a magazine I buy or read too often (except in the occasional doctor’s office, when I can find an issue that isn’t about football or hockey, or the revolting sexist bullshit issue) offered up the results of a poll on their website today. The question asked was: “Would you welcome an openly gay teammate?” According to SI.com, the survey was conducted among professional athletes over a period of the last 10 months. While they don’t report the numbers, here are the percentages: of 450 MLB (baseball) players, 248 NBA (basketball)players, 357 NFL (football) players and 346 NHL (hockey) players the responses were Baseball Yes .....61.5% No .....34.8% Don't Know ....3.7% Football Yes .....56.9% No .....39.6% Don't Know ....3.5% Basketball Yes .....59.6% No .....38.6% Don't Know ....1.8% Hockey Yes .....79.9% No .....18% Don't Know ....2.1% Wow.
