I'm listed for "free" on classmates.com. They overwhelm you with notices and reminders and ads and blah and blah and blah so i cut them down to once a month. still, it's a pointless exercise to be listed for free since a) you can't read anything sent you and apparently b) anything you might SEND to anyone you recognize CAN'T BE READ either. Apparently, notes I sent to 2 h.s. classmates are unreadable not because THEY don't pay but because I DON'T Pay.

This ridiculous set-up bugs me and I can't decide if I want to give Cl*ssmates money so i can find out if, in fact, any of the dozen or so folks whose names I recognized would like to talk with me. Right now they're offering "gold membership" for cheap - about 1/2 what they normally charge for 12 months so I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Has anyone else joined cl*ssmates.co (don't know why I'm using the * except maybe to avoid someone doing a weird search or the site coming after me -w ho knows). Have you bothered? Do you pay for premium "gold" stuff and is it wroth it? Stu just joined I think but i don't know if he' paid for it - he's gotten lots of messages that folks have "signed his guestbook" I don't have a myspace or facebook page so few folks can find me that way, and of course, if you google me, good luck, you have to remember how to spell my name and it's iffy that even if you DID go to high school with me that you'd remember that. (i graduated from high school in 1970, folks. Yeah, scary, huh?) I know the school has a website but I don't think it has alumni stuff; my grad school promised an alumni forum like two years ago but I don't think it ever took off either. WAY low priority, esp when it's not attached to football or fundraising.

the special deal is for $20, rather than the usual 1- year at $36. I hated high school, but there were maybe 15 or 20 wonderful people there who accepted me, treated me as a friend, kept me sane, got me into politics, were good people. A couple have gone on to fame, i occasionally note but I'd love to know more. I've never attended a reunion - the school's 3000 miles away and like most of us nerdy, booky, honor-rolly types, i doubt those folks would attend any more than i would since it wasn't the "best three years of our lives" as it mighta been for the POPular kids (remembering that it always seemed to be pronounced that way.)

Should i risk the $20?
sorry about the ee cummings style - having some problems with the shift key lately.
